About Sam Babington – Director & Lead Installer, Supreme Surfaces

I’m Sam Babington, director and main installer at Supreme Surfaces. I specialise in creating high-quality decorative and functional surfaces for homes and commercial spaces across Leeds, Yorkshire and beyond — including Venetian plaster, polished plaster finishes and epoxy resin flooring.

My career began straight from school in the building trade, working for a local builder in East Leeds. I gained hands-on experience across groundworks, bricklaying and plastering, quickly discovering a natural talent for plastering and progressing to skimming walls independently. That early foundation in traditional craftsmanship still underpins everything I do today.

After the 2008 recession disrupted the building industry, I sought greater stability and professional development. Following interviews with Yorkshire Water, Northern Gas and Openreach, I joined Openreach in 2012 as a trainee fibre engineer. Over the next 12 years I advanced through several promotions and spent three years managing a team of 30 engineers and supervisors, successfully delivering multi-million-pound projects. That experience taught me rigorous project management, attention to detail, reliability and the importance of clear communication with clients — skills I now bring to every Supreme Surfaces installation.

Even while building a successful career in telecommunications, I never lost my passion for the building trade or the creative side of surface finishes. I continued plastering for friends and family, assisting with renovations and transforming my own home. When the opportunity arose to leave Openreach through a paid redundancy scheme, I took it at the start of 2024 and immediately returned to the craft full-time.

To ensure the highest standards, I invested in specialist training:

• Epoxy resin flooring systems with XPS Europe in the Lake District, gaining practical experience alongside established installers and joining an international network of professionals.
• Venetian plaster and polished plaster techniques at Stucco Academy in Wakefield, mastering the products, methods and artistry behind these beautiful, durable finishes.
• Ongoing mentoring from experienced local Venetian plasterers and intensive learning from my brother Robert in the Scottish Highlands — a leading artisan in the field who has shared invaluable expertise.

Today I combine more than a decade of traditional plastering experience, extensive project-management skills and specialist training in modern decorative and resin systems. Every project is approached with the same care, precision and passion — whether it’s a stunning Venetian plaster feature wall, a seamless polished plaster finish or a high-performance epoxy resin floor.
